The Advantages of Buying a Franchise

There are several key advantages in buying a franchise and they may not always be as obvious as you might think like when you come to selling a business; we’ll cover the obvious ones first.

A business investment

If you have a lump sum of money, perhaps from a redundancy or an inheritance then a franchise is one good, hands on way, to invest your money in order to make more; and we all want that don’t we? And rather than pour your money into a business investment you can’t control, isn’t it better to be able to manage the success of your money a little more?

Proven success

Another distinct advantage is that when you buy a franchise from another business you have access to its history and you can tell directly how well the product or service sells before investing any time and money in it. There are not many business opportunities that offer a tried and tested business model before you actually start operating. A franchise offers you this.

Branding

We’ve just mentioned that you have the choice of a tried and tested business model when you buy a franchise, but there is another very important thing you get; the brand. The brand can be the make or break of a franchise. There are some very lucrative franchise opportunities and these are usually the ones with a brand everyone recognises, like McDonalds for example. However it doesn’t always have to be something as big as McDonalds, you could get many customers from a far less known brand. Smaller businesses are often very popular and known because they have provided a product or service that has been good quality. The customers of these smaller businesses remember the name of the business, and they tell others; and if they have had a positive customer experience they are far more likely to return.

Franchise Support Network

Many franchises offer lots of support to those buying a franchise; after all, it’s in their best interest to keep their brand and reputation good, and they want you to achieve as well as they have, otherwise there would be no point. The big companies will often offer support with staff training, suppliers and a whole host of other things that would usually give you a headache if you were setting up your own business from scratch. As we have already identified, a tried and tested business model is so because it’s been operating successfully for a significant amount of time, and basically if you do exactly the same there should be no reason why you cannot have just as much success.

There is another form of support network attached to the franchise system, and it’s often one that is overlooked. This is the invaluable support offered by others who have bought a franchise of the same business. There is nothing in the world of business more valuable than speaking directly to someone else who has experienced the same as you.
