When all is said and done, and if you have carefully read and considered all the pages on this website, you might still be a little unsure of what to do. Don’t worry, this is perfectly normal and it doesn’t mean you’re an indecisive business person, it just means you’re cautious and that’s fine.
There are many professionals out there today that can advise you in matters of business, and there are many that can offer impartial advice about franchises in particular. After all, if you’ve done your own research and met with your potential franchisor then it’s likely that all the information you have about your franchise is probably biased. Don’t get me wrong here, I am not trying to tell you that the franchise representative will have lied to you in order to get you to buy a franchise, I’m just saying that they are less likely to consider other opportunities in the same business sector, and they are much less likely to point out any problems with their franchise.
Some banks can offer free and independent advice on businesses and they may even cover opening a franchise. I wouldn’t expect detailed information about the particular franchise from them; their information will primarily be very generic, but none the less useful. Remember that having more information cannot hurt; a well informed decision is a good decision 90% of the time!
Financial advisors and accountants are professionals who will investigate a little further, following your instructions. They will be able to draw up diagrams and all kinds of things that will hopefully identify all the hidden pitfalls of the various franchises out there on the market today.
After all is said and done, it’s your money, and you should not let anyone tell you how to spend it and where to invest it. If they tell you what to do with it then leave them well alone. It is much better to get suggestions from professionals than actual recommendations; and it is always important for you to get them to investigate the franchises you yourself have chosen prior to seeking their advice; you know what you want better than anyone, it’s just that you need a little help with the details.
One of the most important reasons to consult a financial expert like an accountant is to decide if you are going to pay a fair price for the franchise considering all that is on offer. Remember that a franchise isn’t something like you’d buy in a shop; the price on the label is not necessarily the final price. An accountant can look into the feasibility of the project and examine the businesses books in order to give you a good indication whether you are paying over the odds or not.
If you decide to buy a franchise and offer a lower price, for a good reason, you are more than likely going to be a preferred franchise anyway, simply because the franchisor can see that you are actually serious enough to investigate their business thoroughly.
